Fluff, basically, about the things Max loves about JudeAuthor's Note:
Jude!worship, because every so often, a man comes along and steals my gay. So I figured that instead of fighting it, I'd just give in and love it. Also, I just friended a bunch of people today at the Across the Universe Friending Meme
. Hi guys! *waves* If you want to read the fic I don't finish, or think I'm awesometastic, do the meme and we can be friends. Yayyyy!Story Index
The thing about Jude is that the lad is completely oblivious (alright, not lad. Man, maybe. Jude's Britishness has rubbed off on Max, but not that
They'll be at a club, Jude and Max, and Max will go to get them some drinks. And he'll come back, and he'll see that in the short time he's been gone, some girl will have already come by to flirt with Jude. And Jude won't even realize it. He'll think the girl is being friendly, making conversation, but even from across the room it's obvious just by looking at the girl's body language. So Max makes his way back, squeezing between people, and he comes up behind Jude and wraps his arms around his boyfriend and kisses his neck. And maybe if the girl is bold she'll stick around for a few more moments, trying to regain Jude's attention, but she'll always fail. Max will sort of smirk at her, and she'll slink off, and later if Jude wonders where she went, well, Max can distract him pretty easily.
Jude is all sorts of perfect, and Max doesn't pretend for a second that he's not completely smitten. He loves the way Jude feels and tastes, loves that from the first second he experienced being close to Jude, it felt so familiar, like finally coming home - and that's completely sappy, isn't it? Jude makes him so sappy. He loves that Jude loves cuddling, be it leaning against him slightly on the subway or discreetly linking pinkies when they walk, or refusing to get out of bed in the morning because it's just so warm
in there. He loves that he'll catch Jude staring, and Jude won't even act embarrassed, he'll just shrug and grin and say something like, "Can you blame me?"
He loves that he feels like a better person because Jude loves him. He loves that Vietnam feels like a faraway place when Jude is around. And when Max wakes up from a nightmare, sweaty and shaking and scared and confused, he loves that Jude is always there, soft and steady. Jude will sing him little songs, and hold him close, and just let him understand what's real, what's now
, because no matter what's in Max's nightmares, it's not as important as what's happening right here, right now
He loves little things. The way Jude always puts the toilet seat down for no apparent reason (Max says it's because Jude's a girl, Jude says it's a habit). The excessive amount of fruit that's always in the apartment - even if there's no other food, there will be apples and strawberries and pears and bananas. He loves Jude's art, and seeing himself reflected in Jude's eyes. He loves that Jude writes letters to his mother every week without fail, he works on them on Sunday and mails them out Monday morning, and there are always funny little sketches on the envelope and around the words. He loves it all.
He swears, Max swears
he hasn't always been this sentimental. And if you confronted Max about any of these topics, he'd probably tell you to fuck off. And then he'd go and find Jude, and probably rest his hands on Jude's waist, and the two of them would just stare at each other and exchange a smile. You'd think they'd get used to it by now - they haven't. They're so giddy, so happy to be together. And Max would lean in close, you wouldn't be able to hear it, but he'd lean in close to Jude's ear and whisper, "Mine."
And Jude would look at him some more, and a slow smile would spread across his face, and he'd reply, "Yours." And they'd rest their foreheads together, they'd be nose to nose, and they'd kiss, a small, tender, perfect little kiss.
And Max is so happy he wants to, like, cry, but he doesn't. Well. Whether he does or not is really nobody's business. Suffice to say, he's a happy man, and he figures that as long as he has Jude nearby, he always will be.
